WRAP - Waste Resources Action Programme

The WRAP project is a year long case study to demonstrate how green compost can be mixed with poor soil materials to make topsoil in situ, during our major contruction works.

Poor soils from Raploch that need to be removed during construction would normally have been disposed of and more topsoil brought in to create gardens and green spaces, therefore incurring heavy transport pollution and increasing landfill.

The aim of the study is to assess the beneficial effects of using PAS 100 compost to improve the quality of on-site soil material, so that it can be used to replenish the soil during the construction of new homes and to enhance green spaces without the need to import soil.

A trial site has been created in Huntly Crescent and the mixes of soil will, over the year, be tested for its nutrient and growing quality to gain the best 'recipe' for topsoil in Raploch.  This information will be valuable to other regeneration and construction programmes and the case study will be widely disseminated.
