Raploch Today

Adjacent to Stirling, one of Scotland’s newest cities, Raploch is surrounded by all that is prosperous, dynamic and vibrant. It is located in the heart of Central Scotland, and boasts excellent transport infrastructure that places it equidistant from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

While the wider area of Stirling has witnessed a significant increase in economic activity and prosperity in recent years, Raploch has been unable to share in this prosperity. Raploch has become an increasingly excluded community, and the gap between it and the rest of Stirling is stark. The Raploch story is one of higher unemployment rates, poorer health, poorer quality housing, lower educational achievement and a lack of choice and opportunity.

However, many people of Raploch have a long association with the area; some families date back generations and in many cases, children, parents and grandparents live beside one another. This sense of identity makes Raploch unique and brings with it a pride that is shared by everyone who lives, works and visits the area.

Today, Raploch remains as one of highest in the Forth Valley deprivation index. For this reason it was designated Urban Regeneration pathfinder status by the Scottish Executive in June 2004.

Over the last few years, there has been extensive consultation and engagement with residents, local businesses and the Community Planning Partnership. Through this process, a physical Masterplan for the area has been agreed.  The Masterplan aims to breathe new life into Raploch, transforming it into a 21st century community through the use of high design standards and strong community involvement.
