RadioRaploch will give the community a voice, enabling people to learn new skills and create programmes to inform and entertain their neighbours. The station will cater for all ages and will cover everything from live music and cooking to local issues and news.
Raploch URC secured funding from the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts (NESTA) to turn the idea of establishing a web based radio broadcast service in Raploch into a reality.
The Radio Raploch Steering Group, who will ensure the aims of the community are met, comprises:
- Raploch URC Limited
- Business Lab
- BBC Scotland Community Projects
- Stirling University – Media Studies
- Community members
- Central FM.
The RadioRaploch group went to BBC Scotland workshops to learn more about interviewing and recording skills, learned about best practice at Sunny Govan Community Radio, and made use of recording equipment and in-house expertise from the Stirling University Film and Media Studies Department.
It is the groups intention to establish RadioRaploch as an independent community business with 3 employees working alongside a team of volunteers. A 3 year busines plan has been prepared and steps are now being taken to make an application to secure funding to bring RadioRaploch to the airwaves.
